Joe Kenny on For Folks Sake, Saturday 15th April

Joe Kenny

Will be Des Fishers guest this coming Saturday 15th April on For Folks Sake from 1pm.

A live performer of over 25 years, Joe is a singer, musician and song writer hailing from Co. Armagh in Northern Ireland. Joe wows audiences with his unique guitar style and an uncompromising vocal delivery that has enthralled and entertained audiences in venues throughout Ireland and beyond.

Fresh from his sold out gig at the renowned Sunflower Bar in Belfast where Joe lifted the lid on some new material as well as revisiting songs from his debut EP Perfect Fool which now boasts the release of three singles, Chasing A Dream, All At Sea and Label Me.

Released in September 2021, Joe Kenny describes his debut EP ‘Perfect Fool’ as his lockdown labour of love.

Described as: ”Full to the brim with super-smooth melodies and spell-binding fret wizardry,” by Edwin McFee in the Sunday Life.

Joe says: “selling tickets for your own show and singing your own song, you can’t hide. You have to know who you are as a singer and why your here. It’s exciting and frightening all at the same time. When you get it right, it’s the best feeling in the world. When you’ve served your time for years playing cover gigs, it’s really difficult to make that leap of faith and convince yourself that people might want to spend their hard earned money to come out to hear songs you’ve written. But I reckon, if I never try then I’ll never know.”

Now living in Belfast, Joe, who’s totally blind, confesses to having played his guitar the wrong way round for far too long to stop now.

Joe has taken his passion for Irish Folk music and blended it into a contemporary Folk sound that could be said to also echo musical flavours that include John Martin, U2 and Snow Patrol to name but a few.

Joe continues: “I’m determined that music artists with a perceived disability, are better represented within the local live music calendar. Your disability or the bit of you that people see, isn’t everything you are. When I’m sitting there playing my guitar and singing, I don’t need to see to know what’s going on. You feel the connection in the room just like any other artist. If there is such a thing as magic, I think it’s that. ”
