If your Wednesday mornings feel like a slow-motion car crash, we’ve got a solution—or at least a very loud distraction. Meet Phily-It O’Kane, the man brave (or crazy) enough to man the decks every Wednesday from 8 am to 10 am.
He’s high-energy, he’s fueled by a questionable amount of caffeine, and he’s obsessed with American Country. We sat down with him to find out why he does what he does.
The Show: Not Your Average Commute
Phily describes his show as "lively," which is radio-speak for "you might want to adjust your volume." It’s a high-octane mix of music for everyone, though he can’t help but lean heavily into a strong flavor of American Country. Expect great tunes, a lot of "good craic," and the occasional guest who may or may not have realized they were going live.
"The show is open and completely unpredictable," Phily admits. "Guests can call in anytime, which is great for the energy, but terrifying for my blood pressure. It’s about starting the day right—or at least making sure you’re awake enough to find your keys."
Why Radio? (Because He Can't Stop Talking)
While some people are passionate about saving the whales, Phily is passionate about proving that radio is still alive and kicking. He’s on a mission to share music from every genre, mostly because he likes the sound of his own voice and wants to make sure you’re hearing something better than your own thoughts at 8:30 am.
The Battle of Wits: Listener Edition
Live radio is a dangerous game, especially when Phily’s listeners are involved. His funniest moments on air don't come from a script—they come from the inbox.
"The listeners are sneaky," he says. "They’re constantly trying to trick me into reading out ridiculous messages. My main hobby on air has become 'The Great Filter'—trying to catch the pranks before they leave my mouth. It’s a 50/50 success rate, honestly."
The Wednesday Debrief ⚡
The Backup Plan: If the radio gig ever falls through, Phily wouldn't go far. He’d still be behind a mic, podcasting and chatting to anyone who will listen. Essentially, he’s a professional talker with no off switch.
The Hobbies: When he isn't in the studio, he’s at live events or podcasting. He claims he likes "good stories," but we suspect he just likes being the one telling them.
The Superpower wishlist.....
Mind Reading "Imagine the stories you’d uncover," he says. We imagine he’d just use it to see which listener is trying to prank him next.
The Record Collection: Don’t ask him to choose between Garth Brooks and George Strait. He won’t do it. He’ll just play both and talk over the intros.
Need a reason to get out of bed on a Wednesday? Tune in to Phily-It O’Kane from 8 am to 10 am. It’s two hours of banter, country hits, and Phily trying his best not to get tricked by the internet.
