Derry City and Strabane District Council has confirmed it will introduce its summer opening hours across some of its services next week.
For Cemeteries, including the City, Ballyoan and Altnagelvin, the new extended opening times will see sites remain open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, running from Monday 30th March 2026.
In line with the clocks going forward this weekend, Recycling Centres will also change to their summer opening times from Monday 30th March. Several sites will benefit from extended weekday evening hours, while others will introduce revised Monday openings. Key changes are as follows:
Eglinton, Park, and Plumbridge will operate later into the evening (until 7pm) on weekdays, with Monday opening times moving to 12 noon–7pm.
Newtownstewart will also extend weekday hours to 11:30am–7pm, with Saturday opening from 9:30am–4:30pm.
Pennyburn, Strabane, and Strathfoyle continue to offer the most extensive access, operating 8am–8pm Monday to Friday, 8am–6pm Saturday, and 1pm–5pm Sunday.
Claudy, Donemana, and Glendermott maintain consistent weekday hours (9:30am–5pm) with Saturday closing slightly earlier at 4:30pm and remaining closed on Sundays.
Spamount will open 10am–5pm on Mondays and 9:30am–5pm on Fridays, remaining closed at weekends.
The Council continues to encourage all residents to make full use of local recycling centres and to segregate waste appropriately. Extended summer hours aim to improve accessibility while supporting environmental targets and reducing illegal dumping.
Residents are advised to check the specific opening times for their nearest site before visiting, as hours vary by location.
