If you want to hear the heartbeat of the local music scene, tune your radio to Drive 105 on Wednesdays from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. That’s where you’ll find Mickey Ferry, a man who has turned his airtime into a platform for the incredible talent coming out of our corner of the world.
From decade-spanning classics to the freshest tracks hitting the North-West, Mickey’s show is a love letter to great tunes.

Live from the Studio
Mickey’s favorite part of the job isn't just playing records; it’s the magic that happens when the guests arrive. He regularly hosts studio sessions where artists drop in for a chat and a live performance.
"I’m always so fortunate to be there seeing and hearing something special. My favorite shows are the ones where people text or ring in just to say how good the studio guests were."
For Mickey, the inspiration for the gig was simple: he lives in a place that produces world-class music, and he believes that music deserves to be heard.
The Wrong Number Winner
Live radio often leads to some crossed wires, and Mickey has one of the best "wrong number" stories in the business. A listener once called in with a confident answer to a quiz question—the only problem was that Mickey wasn't running a quiz.
"They were giving an answer to a question from a completely different show on a different station," Mickey recalls. He kindly pointed the caller in the right direction, then messaged his friend (the presenter of the other show) with the answer. "I still didn't win!" he jokes.
Garden Gazing and Flying Taxis
When the mic is off, Mickey is a fan of the simple things: cinema, local history, and watching sport. Like many of us, he also spends a significant amount of time in his garden—though perhaps not in the way you’d expect. He describes his main gardening hobby as "staring at things and saying to myself, 'aye, I must sort that.'"
If he could have any superpower, he’d take to the skies. His reason for wanting to fly? It’s purely practical: "It saves on the taxi fare, if you're lucky enough to even get one!"
The Mickey Ferry Record Bag
Asking Mickey for a single favorite artist is, in his words, "impossible." However, if you want a taste of what he’s championing right now, he recommends checking out two fantastic North-West acts:
Tramp
Sister Ghost
Whether he’s showcasing a local band’s first single or helping a listener find the right radio station, Mickey is the ultimate community man. If he wasn't the one presenting the show, he says he’d be the one on the other end of the phone, texting and tweeting in.
Next time you're stuck in Wednesday afternoon traffic, let Mickey provide the soundtrack. And if you have a quiz answer, just make sure you've got the right station!
