From Dialing In to Delivering the Hits: Meet Dee Curran

If you spent your childhood calling up local radio stations to demand 2 Unlimited or D:ream, you have a lot in common with Dee Curran. The only difference? Dee actually made it behind the microphone.

After starting as a volunteer in 2010 during a quiet spell for work, Dee has become a staple of the airwaves. Today, he’s the man responsible for curing the Monday blues with Mid-Morning Monday, broadcasting every week from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

The Monday Motivator

Dee’s show is a two-hour burst of positivity designed to kickstart the week. Between the upbeat tracks, he keeps the community connected with a mix of local news, traffic, and signature features.

If you’ve ever wondered about the history of a specific date or need to brush up on your local lingo, Dee has you covered with:

  • On This Day: A trip down memory lane.

  • The Monday Motivator: The audio equivalent of a double espresso.

  • Derry Word of the Day: Perfect for locals and visitors alike.

"Each song is carefully selected to help listeners, and myself, kickstart the week with positive energy and enthusiasm."

A Tale of Two Eejits

Radio isn't always smooth sailing, especially when the names of American country-pop bands are involved. When asked about his funniest on-air moment, Dee recalls a disastrous attempt at a duet introduction.

"We tried to introduce a Lady Antebellum track," Dee laughs, "but could either of us say 'Antebellum'? We sounded like two eejits." It’s a humble reminder that even the pros occasionally get tongue-tied over four syllables.

Running, Records, and Red-Eye Teleporting

Outside the studio, Dee describes himself as a "Runner. Fundraiser. Skint Vinyl Collector." Since becoming a father, his free time has shrunk, but his passion for music remains—hence the "skint" status of his record collection.

If he could have any superpower, it would be teleportation. Not for saving the world, but for the ultimate night out: "I could be in Derry at 6, teleport to a concert in Europe, and teleport home all by 11 PM. What more could I want?"

Beyond the Morning Mic

While he loves the "Mid-Morning Monday" vibe, Dee is also a key player in Match Night Live. This year, the show has expanded its coverage, bringing more pre- and post-game analysis to the fans.

But don't ask him what he'd be doing if he wasn't on the radio. According to Dee, if he weren't in the studio on a Monday morning, he’d be fast asleep—and on a Friday night (presumably during a Derry City match), he’d be "a million times happier" (though we think he’s joking... mostly).

Whether he's spinning Travis and U2 or trying to pronounce difficult band names, Dee Curran is all about the connection. Next time you're listening, keep an ear out for the "Derry Word of the Day"—just don't expect him to say "Antebellum" correctly on the first try!
